Napakailap na buhay pag-ibig
Aking inaasam asam
Balot na nung bago mag pandemic
Ngayon ay mas higit pa
Saan kita mahahagilap aking mahal,
Aking irog
Saan kita hahanapin
Saan sulok bang mundong ito?
Nang malawak na planeta,
Nang daigdig na ito?
Ang pusong nangungulila
Sa iyong mga yakap at halik
Hiling nang isang pusong sabik
Hold me with your eyes at a distance. It’s okay, cry more behind your mask. Touch me with gloved hand if you can. But let go as i fade slowly. To remember your hugs in my fading dream. Do remember to keep safe but give joy in-between spaces. Even with COVID, life is completed.
Had two patients with esophageal cancer last week. One was a news reporter, only in her 30s, and cancer has spread to her liver and bones. The other is a seventy-year-old Chinese businessman. Now I’m having dysphagia too, and I’m in my bed, dying. I take a PPI. I can swallow! I can swallow!
She closed her eyes as the dog barked in a far-off distance. She told herself I would rather remember the sun’s heat pricking my skin in the midday rush to the población. The faint smile. The scent of ginger. And the quiet, almost inaudible whisper. It was a struggle with the mask. Then tears fell.
An outing to the beach to get a breath of fresh air
Started a nightmare.
I had it, my husband and niece had it.
Our mother, and driver, too!
Three of us confined!
To God I prayed, may we all come out of it alive and well.
Thank God! God is good all the time!
