PSMO celebrates 50th year, launches book The Philippine Society of Medical Oncology (PSMO), a component society of the Philippine College of Physicians (PCP), will celebrate its fiftieth anniversary on October 23-25, 2019 during their 33rd annual convention at the EDSA Shangri-La Hotel. On October 25, 2019 during their fellowship night at the EDSA Shangri-La Hotel, the PSMO will also launch a book entitled “BULAWAN: Interviews with Filipino Medical Oncologists” edited by Dr. Maria Belen E. Tamayo, Dr. Noel P. Pingoy, and Dr. Joey A. Tabula. The book is culled from interviews for a commemorative video marking the society’s golden anniversary. PCP President Maria Gina C. Nazareth praised the book by saying, “Reflecting on the nature and burden of the illness that medical oncologists face in their daily practice, the conversations in this book reveal the resilience, wisdom, and audacity of those who have chosen this challenging, but wholly rewarding, path as their vocation.” Founded on November 13, 1969, the PSMO had its first officers inducted by then Philippine Medical Association President Dr. Fe del Mundo on December 17, 1970. Since then, the PSMO and its members provide quality care to persons afflicted with cancer.
