Organization Overview
The Philippine College of Physicians (PCP) is the umbrella organization of internists in the Philippines. Established in 1953 under the leadership of its Founding President, Dr. Gonzalo F. Austria, the PCP has three main functions:
- Continuing medical education for internists and other physicians;
- Certification and regulation of the subspecialty of Internal Medicine; and
- Accreditation and certification of Internal Medicine training programs in the Philippines.
The PCP is one of the eight (8) specialty divisions of the Philippine Medical Association and a member society of the International Society of Internal Medicine (ISIM).
To date, we have a total of 15,115 members, composed of Fellows, Diplomates, and Members. The title of Diplomate in Internal Medicine is awarded by the PCP to an internist who has fulfilled all the requirements established by the Philippine Specialty Board of Internal Medicine (PSBIM), which administers the certifying examinations annually.
The title of Fellow is awarded to a Diplomate in Internal Medicine who has fulfilled the PCP’s requirements for fellowship. Qualified physicians may carry the titles Diplomate in Internal Medicine and Fellow of the Philippine College of Physicians (FPCP), as applicable.
As of now, the College has 16 Component, Attached Component, and Affiliate Organizations, 25 regional chapters nationwide, and eight (8) chapters in the National Capital Region (NCR).

- LEADS in setting the highest standards in medical diagnosis, treatment, prevention, and service in the Philippines, empowering internists as leaders in ethical care and practice, health policy, and innovation
