Medical Humanities / PCP ROTOR MEMORIAL AWARDS FOR LITERATURE

The Arturo B. Rotor Memorial Awards for Literature (Rotor Literary Awards) is the first national literary awards for doctors in the Philippines and in Asia.

Launched in 2022 by the PCP Foundation and the PCP Medical Humanities Committee, the contest is envisioned to provide a platform for internists to explore the intersection between Medicine and Literature.

It is aimed at inspiring doctors to find meaning and clarity in the fragmented, chaotic narratives from patients and family members, and accept these stories as neither tangential nor inadvertent to the practice of the profession, but as the heart and soul of Internal Medicine.

During the first three years (2022–2024), the contest was open only to members of the Philippine College of Physicians and resident-trainees of accredited training institutions. In the spirit of inclusivity and in the context of a national literary contest, the RLA 2025 is now accepting entries for Creative Nonfiction (CNF) from all Filipino physicians.

Winning and notable entries from the inaugural RLA were published as Rx Narratives: Anthology of Creative Nonfiction of Filipino Internists (Alubat Publishing and PCP Foundation), a finalist in the 2024 National Book Awards. Another volume featuring notable submissions from the 2023–2024 contests is currently in the works.
